BYLC begins leadership program

The Bangladesh Youth Leadership Centre started its 7th four-month leadership program styled Building Bridges through Leadership Training in Chittagong on Thursday.

A total of 40 college, madrassa and university students were competitively selected from around 535 applications covering over 100 institutions for this international award-winning program.

The program was launched through a ceremony at the Peninsula hotel in Chittagong on Thursday.

Develop leadership quality among students

Nicholas Dean, charge d'affaires of US Embassy in Bangladesh, has underscored the need for developing leadership qualities among students to bridge the gap between leaders and common people.

Nicholas was addressing as the keynote speaker at the opening ceremony of a training program entitled 'Building Bridges through Leadership Training' (BBLT) organized by Bangladesh Youth Leadership Center (BYLC) at a hotel in the port city on Thursday.

US Embassy in Dhaka supported the 7th four-month BYLC Training Program.

Leadership training for youth begins

Bangladesh Youth Leadership Centre (BYLC) organized a four-month long training program on 'Building bridges through leadership training' with the support of the US embassy in Dhaka.

The opening ceremony of the training program was held in the auditorium of Hotel Peninsula in the port city yesterday.
Nicholas Dean, charge d' affaires of US embassy in Dhaka, was the keynote speaker while Ejaj Ahmad, president of BYLC, and Ivdad Ahmad Khan Mojlish, director of BYLC, spoke at the ceremony.

Nicholas Dean said this kind of training should come up frequently and after the training program, application of leadership is important.

The objective of the program is to bridge gaps in society by raising awareness among young people, equip them with leadership, problem-solving and teamwork skills and engage them in community service and active citizenship, said Ejaj Ahmad.

2nd batch of BYLC junior leaders graduated

The Bangladesh Youth Leadership Center celebrated its second graduation ceremony of junior leadership program at BRAC Centre Inn in the capital on Saturday.

To bridge the growing divide between the youth and the older generation in society and to foster a sense of empathy and responsibility among the younger generation, BYLC had arranged its second junior leadership program, said a press release.

Presided over by the BYLC president, Ejaj Ahmad, the ceremony was addressed by the BYLC chairperson, Manzoor Hasan, and the American Centre director, Lauren Lovelace, as special guests.

A total of 38 secondary school and madrassa students were selected from 250 applications.

The tumultuous years between 1952 and 1971 will have not been possible had it not been for the power of the young Bangalis, which when unleashed, had the capacity to uproot all the evil forces and bring back honor and a new found identity. It is through the brave leadership of the youth that dreams are sown and reform flourishes. It is with this belief that Bangladesh Youth Leadership Center (BYLC) began its first steps towards a journey that is both challenging and inspiring.

Bangladesh Youth Leadership Center’s new chairperson

On April 30, Barrister Manzoor Hasan, founding executive director of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) and advisor to BRAC University's Institute of Governance Studies (IGS) was elected chairperson of the board of governors of the Bangladesh Youth Leadership Center (BYLC). Hasan has been a member of BYLC’s board since January 2009, and he will be taking over from Zafar Sobhan. The leadership training program of BYLC was developed in Harvard University and has been successfully implemented in Bangladesh as a pioneering concept with the aim of creating a more inclusive, tolerant and just society through training and awareness.
